Info on 4 rotor engines

Hey everyone I had a few questions on a 4 rotor engine 2.6L or 5.2L whichever you guys want to call it. I am thinking about buying one in a few years to put in a car I am designing. It is going to be a mid engine car. I have contacted a few companies so far. I have gotten a quote for around $35,000. This is around 650 HP. I wanted turbo on it too just because I love the sound of an engine that scary with the hiss of the BOV. Would this much power be streetable for me? Its not an everyday driver but I would like to take it other places than the track. I have never driven more than 350 HP so i dont know how bad 650 is. Anyways I guess I am also asking if anyone knows anyone in the US primarily in the north east who would build me this engine.

Re: Info on 4 rotor engines

You would have to have several parts custom fabbed. The eccentric shaft would be the most difficult I would say, but some people say that two 13B eccentric shafts can be joined by a specially made coupler, but I'm unsure on this. I would recommend a 20B engine since you could actually buy one of those. Stock they come twin turbo'ed with 320 hp I believe. 650 hp out of a 20B would'nt be hard at all to achieve. The unique factor is still there too since few people in the states have them and you go thru a lot less headache and dollar bills.

Yeah I know it would be a lot less money for me. I talked to a company in Australia and they told me its about $5000 for the eccentric shaft. I know not many people have them and that is kind of why I wanted one, My car is going to be a custom exotic and I just wanted an engine no one has. I may eventually have to get a triple turbo 20b though. Is 650HP actually streetable though?

Re: Info on 4 rotor engines

I thought there were no 20B with turbo at all, just the kits.

Re: Info on 4 rotor engines

The idea of streetable changes from person to person. 650 hp shouldn't be a streetable issue has long as you take your time a build a solid motor. You don't need a triple turbo setup either. Dual turbo setup is a many as you would ever practially need. A dual or even single setup could net you 650 hp easy if you match the right turbo to the engine. 20B street ported with all the right internal upgrades and matched performance turbo kit. More fun that you could ever have on the street and more than enough at the track. 20B's had twin turbos

Re: Info on 4 rotor engines

Well I dont really want to build it myself. I know a lot about rotary engines, but I never had the balls to rip one apart. But I am sure if the garage offers it at a stated price it will be pretty solid. Why only a good luck Soyo?? No help on it?

You should rip a motor apart. Why not? I think it would be fun, but that's me. Now I just need to find a motor.

Re: Info on 4 rotor engines

yea just good luck, its gonna be VERY expensive and be very hard to do... especially with out a great deal of rotary knowledge which you said yourself you don't have

Re: Info on 4 rotor engines

Thanks flex, I am looking to do that myself. I want to try a rebuild first. I saw some cars for around 1000 on nopistons.com.

Soyo I know its very expensive I have already had a quote for 35 Grand. The eccentric shaft itself is 5 Grand. I know itll be expensive, but how many people do you know with a 26B engine? I am trying to learn all I can about the engine before I get one and play with it.

Re: Info on 4 rotor engines

oh it will be awesome and original I agree, just making sure you knew the price and difficulty, but good luck again

From what i've seen, "homemade" 4 rotors seem to average around 500 hp or so... it's not the same 700 hp from the 787b unfortunately. i think 35 grand is way too low a quote if you're not doing the work yourself... a 20b conversion costs about that much if i'm not mistaken. you may be able to do a 20b conversion if you know the right people and such or even lower, but 30 is not unusual for a 20b, and that's not building a custom motor. Good luck with that, I hope it works out, but i think you're going to see some budget issues. Keep us updated

Re: Info on 4 rotor engines

yea the cheapest I've ever seen a 20b swap for was like 26k and I don't think that counts engine cost which is about 4-5k I think it'll be over 40k for the 26b your wanting to make and swap in, but thats just my thoughts

What do you want this custom car to look like 26B 600HP?

Flex, I am working on it in a 3d modeling program right now. I love diablos. So that is the main basis of my design. If anyone wants to see them I have renders just email me at [email protected]. I am going to change it because with all of the sharp points and such it seems more like an early 90's car.

Yeah I know a swap of a 20B is $30000, but the motor is around 5000. My motor is going to cost $35000. But from what I am looking at I can find a 4 rotor kit for 6000, plus 2 13B. If I can do it myself I can prolly get it done in the $20000 range. 500 HP is plenty for me. I dont want to think about tapping the gas and lose control of the car. I want it to be somewhat streetable, that is why I am not putting a turbo on anymore even though I love the BOV sound. It should be cheaper to mount the engine in a frame and body specifically designed for the engine, but that is my thought. Is this wrong? Thanks for the help guys.
