Is this ram air hood too good to be true?

These guys have a painted, functional, ram air hood (including vent grills and decals), with new airbox and high flow filter for only $1135:

http://www.ramairhood.com/store/detail.aspx?ID=23

They even claim you don't have to pre-fit their hood too. If you get the pre-painted one, it's basically 1) unbolt stock hood, 2) bolt on ram air hood, 3) kick back and admire new hood. Then you go install the air box and high flow filter; you can be all done in about an hour. All that for only $1135 sounds like a really good deal to me. Especially when you see hoods go for more than $1000 and they're not even painted or come with an airbox. What I'm wondering is: whats the catch? Anybody get a hood from these guys and can vouch for the quality?

Also, what about thier claim that the hood+airbox will had an additional 25hp to 30hp? Any truth to that?

Thanks.

I can tell you now you're not going to get 25hp out of a ram air setup.

As far as the hood, I was looking at that too and wondering.

Ya .. that additional 25hp does seem a bit far fetched. But at any rate, I'm not getting a ram air hood for a performance upgrade (does anybody?); I'm getting it because it looks soooo bad ass .

Re: Is this ram air hood too good to be true?

I know for 97, the WS-6 trans-am added a ram-air option, HP went from 285 to 305, so I would think with a high flow filter and nice ram package, aftermarket may get 25 HP more...It addition to the forced air induction= high flow air inlet, you get colder, denser air as it is not in the engine bay...I would not be surprised if this kit is 25 hp gain, better throttle response, etc...

The 02 Trans Am Without Ram Air Had 310 Hp And The Ram Air Had 325 I Think . I Know It Was Like A 15 Hp Difference But It Wasnt From Just The Ram Air I Think They Had A Different Muffler Too But Im Not Sure. But 25 Horse Is A Bit Far Fetched And 1100 For A Stock Looking Hood Is Rediculous. I Paid That For My Hood And Im The Only Person In Ohio To Have The Hood I Got. Unless Someone Bought It Between Last Year And Now

What kinda hood you got? Did it come painted with airbox and filter, and all that jazz?

I got a ram air hood for sale if you are looking to buy one for much cheaper than what they are asking. It is already painted, custom racing stripes with ghost effect paint, etc. It will fit 98-02 models. I am looking to sell it b\c i am getting a different car. I can e-mail a pic if you are interested if not, that's kool.

Sure, I wouldn't mind if you e-mailed me a pic. Though I probably wouldn't get it unless it happens to be the right color (my TA is bright red) and I'm not really into racing stripes. But it really all depends on what it looks like.

Thanks.

The hood is white with blue stripes and i am pretty sure you wouldn't want that combination with your red bird. But i can show you some pics of it for fun and if you have any other friends with a 98-02 firebird/TA that is white, let them know about it. I will need your e-mail address.
