timing chain in 2.4
2 months ago i bought a 1996 sunfire, 2.4L 130K, i was wondering if i need to change timing chain
i know that people are supposed to change their timing belt once in a while, but i think in 2.4 there is a driving chain and i don't know if it needs to be changed once in a while too |

Re: timing chain in 2.4
Timing chain almost always last pretty much with your vehicle. As the camshaft gear wears and timing chain stretched out a bit, the electronic computer controlled compensates the timing for those wear and tear.
However, the timing belt is different. It needs to be check around 30,000 miles or so and replaced if it shows a sign of wear and shredding. There is a small cover where you open to check the condition of the timing belt. |
