Supercharger

alright...im thinking about getting a supercharger for my '96 audi a4...its a 2.8 liter 12 valve...its about the only thing ive seen for this car to really make it perform...so i just wanted to see what people thought about supercharging a car...does it put a lot of wear on the engine...how hard is installation...anything along those lines...heres a link to the page to get the info if you want SUPERCHARGER...anything that would be important stuff to think about before i buy one would be great...thanks

Superchargers are generally the easiest form of forced induction to install and they are a perfectly good performance modification. I personally prefer turbochargers because they use wasted engery to do their job rather than useable energy from the crank but that doesn't mean there is anything wrong with superchargers. A basic installation of a supercharger is simple, and generally only requires replacing the crank pulley with one that will accomodate the supercharger's drive belt, installing the supercharger (and any oil lines and plumbing), and some sort of fuel correction device (and any other modifications that may be necessary to support the increased fuel flow). Other things that you may want to install are various gauges (boost, A/F), timing control, and an intercooler...personally I think that every vehicle equipped with forced induction should be intercooled. Wear will increase on your motor but as long as you don't abuse it you shouldn't worry, how long a motor lasts will depend more on how it is maintained than whether or not it's supercharged.
