I'm confused; you list the Kia Rio in the post, but not the poll and vice-versa for the Honda Civic

I'm not sure what you mean by these cars, are you talking about the top of the line models, such as the Sentra SE-R or Civic SI (or Type R) or Neon SRT-4? Please be more specific

Re: Rankings: Compact cars

As far as I know, the Neon isn't changing its name.

However, the Cavalier is being discontinued in favor for the new Cobalt which should be out this year.

The Protege is also being discontinued in favor for the Mazda3.

i will vote for a any nissan as well! i know i can vote safely for the sentra cause it can be backed up with positive facts. now if youre talkin about wanting to race a base model sentra, ive heard many bad things about them. get a SE-R Spec-V if your planning on geting crazy once in a while.

I vote Corolla, because it's been in existence longer than a Sentra, plus it has progressed far more performance-wise than any Sentra known on this planet.

When you can find a Sentra that can run 8 secs or lower in the quarter mile on a turbocharged 4cyl engine, then come talk to me. Until then, I vote Corolla!

The ONLY car that can make a Corolla stand for 2nd place is a 68-72 Datsun 510, which is way more advanced in it's old age than any Sentra you can put up on the board.

Just because a Sentra is a Nissan doesn't give it any right to sit next to a 68-72 Datsun 510. No way!!!

The Datsun 510 was proven to be way ahead if its time compared to a Sentra. Back in 68, the 510 already had independent rear suspension. In addition, the Datsun 510 has a racing history unmatched to any sport compact car from past, present, & future (Peter Brock - BRE Racing).

Honda Civic shouldn't even been on the poll in the first place because they were never performance cars by design in the first place. They only got exposure for performance from the so-called "import performance rags" like Stupid Street and SportHonda Car; which in turn, got aftermarket companies to cater to the H-car P.O.S grocery getter so they can do the necessary R&D in order to feed the young kids in order to make easy money.

Those Honda owners who wise up end up selling that H-crap to get a real performance car, like a Toyota Supra.

This is why people like Stephan Papadakis and his $$$ sponsorship dollars spent custom made RWD Civic will still get his ass kicked by a shadetree homemade turbo Toyota Starlet when he sets foot in Raceway Park, Englishtown....

Based on your poll - Toyota Corolla
True performance sport compact car ever made - '68-73 Datsun 510.

If you want to post a poll on real sport compacts, then put the right cars on the poll. You put a Chevy Crapalier, but did not put a Toyota Celica, which not only been in existence longer, but also has the record for the first FWD car to ever run single digit ET's
(HKS Celica - 9secs).

Cavalier came out in 83, Celica came out in 76-77.

Cavalier didn't get any perfomance exposure until 92, so it's still and will remain a piece of crap. I owned a 84 Crapalier and it couldn't even take NOS.

Neon? Don't make me laugh. That's a car that WISHES it could be a Honduh, which is still nothing to be proud of.

Focus?
No way, you must mean Ford RS Escort (AWD 4cyl turbo Cosworth).

Mazda Protege? Noooo.
1st & 2nd Gen RX-7 is a performance compact compared to Protege. I would at least give you credit if you included the Miata, which is more performance oriented than the Protege can ever be.

You didn't include the Mitsu Eclipse/Eagle Talon, which has a right to be on this poll as a proven performance sport compact. It has more right than a Crapalier or a Civic.

VW Corrado G60 - Automatically justifies the Honda Civic for not even being on the poll in the first place.

S13 Nissan 240SX is a proven performance compact. Why not on poll?

Toyota MR2, why not on poll? This was the only US spec car that carried the 4A-GZE supercharged engine.

The corolla is a performance car??

My friend owned a Chevy Prizm, and it's supposed to be basically the same car with a different badge. I've driven it many times, it's the hands-down worse handling, worse performing car I've ever driven...

But to me, it was alright, since I thought it was just a cheap economy car, and I thought it served it's purpose perfectly fine, but if it's supposed to be a performance car, then... uh... sorry...

Re: Rankings: Compact cars

Yeah.....The Corolla is a proper Sports car. Did you know my BMW is jet powered?

The AE85 and 86 were the closest the Corolla ever got to a Sports car. I'd say that currently the Civic is more of a Sports car than the Corolla. Of course neither of them are sports cars by any length.

Sorry, but when I think of Corollas I think Station wagons with Mesh netting between the Load area and Back seat with a long-suffering sales rep behind the wheel and 9999999999999999999999999999 kilometer's on the clock

The 3TC engine from the 80-82 Corolla has been proven to run 8 secs or lower in the 1/4 mile....

1.8 liter single overhead cam. Turbocharged to run 8secs @ 667HP...

This is way before better engines like the Nissan SRDET20 or even the Toyota 3S-GTE were even thought of.

Re: Re: Re: Rankings: Compact cars

Yeah, but it was also Front Drive.

I drove an AE111 a few years ago, wasn't very special; lacked ooomph (thought it would have more) and didn't handle as well as an EG Civic SiR.

I drove both myself, and did not find anything different between them. If anything, the EG Civic was more cheesier than the Corolla. The car I would put before either of them would be a Pulsar GTIr anyway.

But, based on your quote, the AE111 was more advanced than the AE86 regarding Corolla engine and drivetrain.
