anti-theft radio,unlock
My battery went bad in my 2000 silverado. After replacing it, I noticed the lock on my radio display. Couldn't find a code, so took it to the dealer who worked for 2 hours nd couldn't get it. They were told that the code was 4 digits. They gave that to me and said I would have to let the truck set for 1 hour and then put this code in and it should unlock. That failed also. Any ideas besides an aftemarket??

I have an 04 silverado w/ the base cd player. i am going to be getting an alarm installed this weekend, and I'm assuming the battery will be dissconnected for a time. Will I have to put in an unlock code? Where would this code be located??? I DO NOT want to go to the dealership.

Check the owners manual...if the code hasn't been reset I think the code it came with from the factory should be stated in there. I reset my code and then forgot it...pulled the battery cables and locked my radio. The dealer had to contact someone to get and overide code that matched my vin.

Re: anti-theft radio,unlock
UPDATE: If your radio does lock up and you can't find the code written anywhere, have the dealer call GM and give them the serial number and model number. They will give a code for that radio. It may be a 4 digit but for me, I tried the last 2 and the last 3 digits. It was the FIRST 3 digits that unlocked mine about 5 minutes ago. Hope this helps.

PS> THe theftlock system on the radios has to be turned on in order to lock up the stereo. The light will always blink either way. They do not come with the "lock" activated. |

Thanks for the heads up on the stereo. So, if I never mess with the stereo (program it) it will never lock? I ask this because I will soon be replacing it anyhow. But, I do want to be able to put it back in in the future. |

Yeah, as long as no one else activated the stereo you are OK. I pulled my stereo out of my Silverado with in days of picking up my new truck. I then tried to see if it worked about a year later and it did. So, then I sold it on Ebay. |

Got the alarm installed today with an interior cab horn and back-up independent battery. You DO NOT want to be in the cab when the alarm goes off. Also got the rear 3 windows and my Pioneer head unit installed. They did a clean install on everything. I have had 2 previous cars done there before, so I knew they were good.
Now, I don't know if I should attempt to install the sub myself... |

Re: anti-theft radio,unlock
Dunno???? Maybe not if you have enough current but I don't think the charger will keep going. What you could do is rip the battery out of a lawnmower or something else that is 12v and run some wire to hook it up parall to the rest of the system.

Unlock Info
Not sure if this still works. I tried it on my 2001 Silverado...and it worked.
1. Press and hold presets 2 & 3 for about 10 seconds until the first 3 digits of the display code are displayed. 2. Write the numbers down. 3. Press the AM/FM button, wite down the next 3 numbers. 4. Call 1-800-53-5140, when asked, enter 139010, press the # (pound)key and enter the 6 digit code from the radio, you will get an unlock code, write it down. 5 Go back to the car, press the HR button and set the first 2 numbers, then press minute button and set the next two last numbers, press AM/FM button, SEC should be displayed, turn on radio. To remove customers code, repeat 5. You should see --- on radio face, the code is now out of the radio. I hope this info is still valid. I read several other forums that have given the same info, and several that have given different numbers to enter after calling the 1-800 number. Good luck, Bryan |
