ka24e to ka24de, maybe
so ya, i was at one of the auto recyclers today picking up a rad and some fuel injectors, and i was getting it from a 91 240sx f/b (mine's a 90)
so i checked the odometer just cuz i was curious, and it said only 67000 km's (the engine looked in pretty good shape, so i don't think it rolled over)anyway, i can get the complete engine + tranny for around $250 the guy said, that alone is worth it so now i have two options, a) swap out the ka24e in it now for a sr or b) swap out the ka24e for the ka24de and turbo it. i'm leaning towards b since of the power gains over the sr at around the same psi. apparently all i need to do for the ka24de swap is the engine mounts and ecu, which can be easily grabbed from that 240 for cheap i'd have to do a auto -> manual swap as well, which wouldnt be too bad i think, since all the parts are there. now, with all that added up, which is cheaper? turbo the ka + conv. to manual or the sr20 + conv. to manual? |

Re: ka24e to ka24de, maybe
i say ka-manual, youve got more torque off the line, and a better 60', but less high end than the sr, but have a slower 60'. sr if you want to drift because of the higher power curve, youll have the rpms pretty high throughout the drift. ka-t sounds like itll be cheaper than the sr also, 250 + lets say an extra 100 for the other parts, then labor if you arent doing it yourself, around $1500 vs the 2-3k for the sr +purchasing the actual engine

cool, ya i'm not gonna get into the hardcore drifting scene, maybe just learn how to do it and do it once in a while in an empty parking lot or something, and i do enjoy lots of torque
is there a turbo kit in a nice price range? i was checking out that kit from importautoperformance.com, doesn't look too shabby, seemed like the realnissan kit was nice too, but don't happen to be in business anymore GReddy has a kit too right, but overpriced?

Re: ka24e to ka24de, maybe
For all the work involved and the cost of turbocharging a KA24DE, you can just get the SR20 and be done with it.

Check the FAQ for info on both the swaps.

CA18DET, SR20DET, or KA24D(E)T. Not much really separates them costwise unless you run a bare minimum KA-T, which would ultimately be the cheapest, followed by the CA, then the SR. If you wanna go REALLY cheap, go KA24ET. Guys have been running some decent #'s with the turbo SOHC motor with a tight ass budget. Check out the KA section at the NICO forums if you want more info. Reliable, daily drivers too.

ya for sure, i've just checked out nico, lots of info, but now i have to find a ka24e here, that would be great too since then i wouldn't have to get extra stuff for the swap, just plop it in
how is the aftermarket support for the ka24e? or is there not much difference in terms of performance parts |
