Keyless (again)

It looks like there are some very knowledgable people on here. I hope you can help. I posted a reply to another thread, but wanted to give better details. Sorry if redundant, but want to give as much info as poss.

2000 GP GT

Both remotes quit working on same day. Dealer said they thought it was the receiver. A friend of mine who works at a chevy dealership said that he doubt it because he never sees those go bad.

Anyway tried the programming....here's what happens:

ACC-OFF-ACC (enter programming mode)

Chimes

2 pause 8
2 pause 8
2 pause 8 ---- 3 sets of 2 pause 8

Open door, close = Chime

Lock/Unlock at same time - can sit there forever with any chime acknowledgement.

any ideas, or do I truly need a receiver?

Lightbulb Re: Keyless (again)

What happend with mine is, pulled fuse, put in key and turned on then off then on again, and then open and shut door, very quickly between each stage. I got 5 chimes each for each stage, and no chime to confirm programming. Then I put the fuse back in and it worked.( if you wait to long to program the second remote you will erase any memory of the first.) I heard from someone that you have to be in passenger seat to do this, but I dont know if it is true. GOOD LUCK

Re: Keyless (again)

Cruse,

The same thing happened to me yesterday. When I try to program the remotes, I get the same set of chimes as you, but the reprogram doesnt work. The keyless system just died all at once. I am of the opinion that the set of chimes is actually a diagnostic code, its an error code of some kind, so something is broken. It really ticks me off. If you or anyone else has an in depth troubleshooting procedure for the system, Id love to see it

THANKS!!!!!!!

Re: Keyless (again)

I do not know if the chime set is related to a trouble code with the BCU(Body control Unit) or receiver but U must get a chime after 7 secs when pushing lock/unlock simultaneously. If you do not get that chime at the 7 secs mark it is not working.

Re: Keyless (again)

There is another thread that I do not recall right now but if your car is 97-99 it is supposed to chime. From 00 onwards they said on that thread that the reprograming has to be done with a scanner.

Unfortunatley thats what I'm beginning to see. Oh well, a call to the "stealer" is in order. I hate having to go there.

Re: Keyless (again)

Took car to dealer. Remotes are OK. He said that the set of chimes 2 ... 8 (x's 3) is the system showing some type of error. But, of course, it will cost me $$$'s just to figure our what that means. Don't they have a book? They want to hook it up to the computer. That will be at least $60 bucks. I guess I'll have to change the whole system.

Re: Re: Re: Keyless (again)

I never had to use any scanner, My mechanic gave me the same instructions as I posted and it worked just fine, but my 01 never chimed to confirm programming. I used it to program 2 remotes.

Re: Keyless (again)

Well depends on the year, my 98 chime at the 7 second mark, but, that is not cruse's issue. He definetly has problems with his system beyond reprogramming the remotes and he needs someone to tell him if a scanner is needed to diagnose the chime or if the chime sequence itself is the error code.

Re: Re: Keyless (again)

I think a scanner is only needed when you replace the reciever
