85 olds stalls when hot

My 85 oldsmobile cutlass sierra stalls alot when its hot or driving on a warm day. Sometimes it starts again sometimes it has to cool down before i can start it. Ussually I prime the carb with gas to get it going again. Do I need a new carb or could it be something else?

Re: 85 olds stalls when hot

A lot of possibility.
Your vehicle might be having a vapor lock. It is caused by excessive heat (engine bay, exhaust manifold, etc.) and cause the fuel to get hot and when the fuel get hot, they won't ignite. As the engine dies, the fuel temperature goes down and then you can start it again. Try to put some kind of fuel line heat protection or something to minimize heat on the fuel lines.

Ignition coil failing and causes no spark when it get heated up. Replace the coil. There is also a ignition coil heat shield to protect it from excessive heat in the engine bay or exhaust manifold.

Ignition Module failing. Just have to replace it.

Re: Re: 85 olds stalls when hot

My 90 olds had the same problem. Now the mechanic just found out that its the sensor that is located right on the engine block. I cant recall the nme. Its hard to reach and sometimes you have to remove the whole entire bottom frame to get to it
Its a 50 dollar part that comes along with a 400 dollar labour
so have fun
mine works like a charm
