troubleshooting axle/tranny

Otherday I was driving and going up the one slippery street as it was raining i started spinning and then all the sudden the car stopped and didnt go newhere in ne gear and the speedo was moving, i have a 4spd manual and ive had a torn cv boot since i had the car. majority of the grease from inside has comeout. Today i went out and discovered trnasmission fluid on the ground. i lifted the car up and had the car in gear and the tires spun by hand on each side. and then more fluid cameout. Cause this be the result of a broken axle? I hope so it be such a easy fix and im low on the cash. Any way i can go out and be sure it is? Im really dopic when it comes to drivetrains n shit like that.
thanks
dustin

Well sum1 is borrowing my good jack stand and i got a craftsman jack from 72 and im scared to go under it and fully inspect it lol but i just called my local auto parts store and if i got the axles with the (yellow stripe) i can trade mines in and get a pair for free but i will also recieve $22 per axle. man thats awesome but i gotta make sure first that it is the axle.

Can you look under the car and see if the axle has fallen out of the tranny? What do you see under there? We need info to help you

Cause it sounds like the same thing that happened to me when my stock 4-speed tranny went out
