Re: intercooler question

The simplest solution the GReddy IC made for our cars. Simeple, easy and relatively inexpensive.

There are lots of MR2s that have air-to-water but they are custom made .. not a kit you can buy.

I believe a few years of the Celica had a W-to-A IC on their 3SGTE, that may be the easiest way to get one on the car.

Re: intercooler question

Not in my opinion. There are many others that would beg to differ.

Re: intercooler question

the ST165 AWIC's occasionally make their way onto ebay. i know there are a couple ads for AWIC's on xcars.com right now in the parts section.

if anything, you can use an air to air core with a water jacket welded around the air side of the fins. there are a few cores that would work great with similar fitment to the celica ST 165/185/205 cores. grab a tape measure and see what size you'd need. a radiator shop could weld it for you if necessary. it's even better if you have friends who can TIG weld. the water jacket won't be subject to too much pressure, but if you weld on custom end tanks as well (highly recommended- most OE end tanks flow like isht and only direct the air charge through about 30% of the IC core), you'll want them TIG welded on to avoid leaks.

if you do soem research on where to find parts and have connections for welders, there's no reason it should cost you more than $300 total- but for that you could buy the celica cooler and be done with it.

Re: intercooler question

waic makes sense really but it would mean more lines to bleed to another radiator in the front! bugger.. tell me that doesn't beg for the border bonnet!(hood) would mean more cooling, specially at lower speed.. but more weight and more things to break! your choice.

i was searching on the mr2oc forum, but could never get a straight answer. i wanted to know just how many horsepower the greddy intercooler can give. is it possible to break into the 11 second mark with it, considering one has all the "correct" modification to his car. i know the spearco is better, but if my goal is to just break into the 11 sec. mark, i think i rather save some money and just grab a greddy. thanks.

Re: intercooler question

Re: intercooler question

willowlee, as TRD pointed out I am already in the 11s with the GReddy IC. I am fairly certain I can make a 10 second pass this year if my engien holds up.

You have not gotten a straight answer becasue there is no answer. When we mod our cars we are building a system ... everything works together.

The max "gain" in rwhp from the GReddy on the factory turbocharger is going to be a lot less than the max gain in rwhp if the same IC is used on a GT30 turbo MR2.

Get what I mean? ... no one can say that a GReddy IC will give you X amount of power. It depends on your set up.

The same is true of intakes, exhausts and everything else. Each [b]system[/b[ is different, so results will vary.

Hope that helps.

Re: intercooler question

Yes, xcars is back.

TRD2000, when I was on the "bpu level" ... the GReddy IC upgraded gave my "butt dyno" almost as much of a rush as a boost controller did
