Hi,
I was recently pulled over by a policeman for a bad brake bulb; I went to my local Discount Auto Parts store and purchased the 3157 bulbs, that my 1999 Ford Taurus specs required. I went to replace the broken bulb, and after 20 - 25 minutes, and not being able to unscrew the bulb, I consulted my owners manual. "For bulb replacement, see a dealer or qualified technician." Do I really need to pay $50 - $75.00 just for the dealer to replace my $1.69 tail/backup lamp bulb? Surely, someone here knows how to remove and replace a backup lamp bulb. Please help. Thanks in Advance! Last edited by deacon; 05-06-2004 at 09:49 AM. |

Update: I was able to replace the bulb myself, Yeah!
You definitely need a 7/16 DEEP Well socket to remove the 3 nuts, from the inside of the trunk; this allows the entire light assembly to be removed from the bumper. Once that is done, it's pretty much like replacing any other tail or brake light bulb, I used the Slyvania 3157 (manual says 3157), the 2 bulbs cost me $1.69 at my local Discount Auto Parts Store. One I had the correct tool, and the correct part, it only took me about 10 minutes to replace! I'm glad that I was able to repair it myself. Last edited by deacon; 05-06-2004 at 09:50 AM. |

I just wanted to let you know, I found your instructions very helpful this afternoon when I needed to change the taillight on my 98 Taurus. Thanks for taking the time to write it up!
