Thinking of buying a Trans Am
hi, i am thinking about getting a transam for my next car. However i do not know what year to look for in my price range and was wondering if i could get some help from the pros.
I want: manual as low of miles as possible clean look stock (dont want to buy some1 else's work) I can pull off about 10-12k (maybe) as i am only 16. so if anyone knows what year i should look for or any other advice thanks in advance. |

Re: Thinking of buying a Trans Am
1st car i take it.
dont get a TA. it will probabely be to much car for ya. the gas mileage will kill you, and insurance will aswell. now. for 10-12k, you should be able to get a newer T/A, all your other wants are shit that will vary depending on what you find. look in the paper, look in the auto trader, 97+ had the LS1 wich is a better motor then the LT1 before it. good luck, and dont kill yourself, or anyone else, all we need is for more f-body's to go to the junkyard.

trans ams are the greatest but they require a whole lotta work and money. I was given a 78 trans am (special edition gold) thinking it would be a fun car to have. two years later I have put way to many hours and a few thousand into it. if you have the time or the money to work on them they are a so much fun. but insurance and gas milage are horrible.
if you get a TA, I recommend an older one, and enjoy!!! |

actually it will be my second car (im turning 17 may 17th) and the car i have now i hate. I bought it before i knew alot about cars. As for to much car for me i am very good with cars, and have had experiences driving other freinds cars such as a camaro z28. the only problem would be insurance, but i work and will probally work more this summer. I really am not going to start looking hard until i get out of school for summer. Thanks for help.

Re: Thinking of buying a Trans Am
first of all trans ams are not alot of maintanace.they have tons of possabilities to make fast and look good. if your looking to spend between 10 and 12 the best you could probably get is a lt1 trans am. get the body style of a 94-97 that has the lt1 and looks better than the earlier styles. it is rear wheel drive so it sucks in snow. i was looking at a 97 trans am before i got my 99 and it was priced around 14 or 15 . this was 2 years ago though. so you could probably get a 97 or 96 6 spd leather t tops for around 11-13 with decent miles on it . good luck

$10-$12K will get you a nice LT1 car with some $$ left to do mods. Happy hunting.

Re: Thinking of buying a Trans Am
You would have saved a nice chunk of change if you could have found and afforded one during the winter. I got my '97 WS6 in feb. and only paid $8,500. It had 70,000 miles which isn't too bad.
