83 944 Tune-Up

I want to do a full tune-up on my 83 944. I was wondering what normally gets done. And I mean like I want to get it as close to new as possible without rebuilding it. Thanks for the help.

Re: 83 944 Tune-Up

There's not much to "tune up". Most places recommend replacing the plugs, air filter, fuel filter, and if need be the cap, rotor and wires. You can check compression and fuel pressure to maake sure something isn't going bad. A bottle of Techron fuel injection cleaner helps too. Good luck

Re: 83 944 Tune-Up

FULL Tune up:

In order of expense/time

1 Oil + Filter change
2 Air and Fuel filter change
3 Spark plugs, wires : check & clean cap and rotor
4 Bleed all brake lines and clutch
5 Tranny fluid change
6 Coolant flush
7 TB and Balance belt check-change
8 reseal and clean injectors
9 clean and check all grounds (there's 4 big ones)
.........
153 Clean and lube antenna mast

There's plenty to do to maintain your car. 1-7 are the most commonly done on full tune up though.

Re: 83 944 Tune-Up

Spark plugs and wires are dependant on opinion.

Some people use iridiums, I'm included in this, but I use an MSD 6A and they are the only plugs that wont deteriorate aftyer a short while (very pleased)

Some people use platinums, long life, never gap, fires in oil, self cleaning, lots of plusses

Some people use the OEM copper plugs. Good enough for the factory is good enough for me.

Don't go cheap on the cap and rotor, I've seen the set screw are of the rotors crack on cheap ones. I've also seen cheesy rotors that were destroyed after the firing contacts burned away.

Wires: stock works fine, i use jacobs because they were cheaper on E-bay
