Which Prelude, What upgrades

Hello, this is my first thread and I would just like to say this is a great website. I am in the process of buying a 97' VTECH Prelude. Is this a good choice? A 97 would be 5th gen right? I have a fairly steady job, but I cant spend too much money. How could I increase the preformance? What about exterior? What brand should I buy? I'd like to get a cold air intake, but it seems kind of odd to pay $200 for a filter and some tubes. Is there any way I could make the tube myself? and then just buy a good filter? what about a bypass value? What other ways could I prevent water in my engine. Sorry, I know this is a newbish question, but I dont want to take any chances.
Thanks a bunch,
Ray

1. first off, it's VTEC, not VTECH.
2. and it's a great choice.
3.actually if you can find a 99 and up that'd be better. but nothing wrong with the 97. is it a manual or automatic.
4. 97 and up are 5th gens.
5. read Aces' thread about making power.
6. what about the exterior? brand of what?
7. you can make a custom CAI (cold air intake), a lot of people do. jus depends on what materials you choose.
8. AEM makes a bypass valve for their CAI's. or you can just buy a SRI (short ram intake) if you're concerned about getting water in the engine, which btw is very uncommon. there are advantages and disadvantage of both forms of intake
9. use the search button. much of this has been covered in more detail.

good luck
