Question V6 3.8 Camaro

I have a 3.8 V6 Camaro. Does anybody have a clue as to who sells a Performance chip for a 1997 camaro? My next question is? Is there any
easy way you can give the car any extra HP? Good or Bad comments would help either way. Thank You!

Re: V6 3.8 Camaro

Theres never an easy way to get hp.. Start with the basics.. A good intake, and an exhaust... If you really want decent power out of it, you'l haveto open it up.. You'l be lookin at porting and polishing, flat tops, cams things like that..

With the 97' you've got OBD2.. Rather than a chip, you'l be looking for a power programmer, or "piggyback" system.. But sorry, I havent a clue if anyone makes them for V6's

My mom has a 02' camaro w/ 3.8...we looked at modding but didnt do anything yet...I know from looking for my car that there is a chip made by venome. The VENOM 400 performance chip claims to add 25% of your hp. If I were you I would start with intake, headers, FULL exhaust, and the venom chip. After that you may want to look into larger injectors and a fuel pump and then after that a larger cam. All that may get you up to about 260/270hp and 260/265 lb ft of torque....the bill with installations should be around 3k even maybe a little under. If you still had more to spend then go to suspension...start with lower control arms then sway bars then struts/braces then shocks, etc.

Re: V6 3.8 Camaro

the venom chip is horseshit!!! all it does is trick the computer into thinking that the throttle is wide open when its not. you can accomplish the same results that the chip gives you buy pushing the pedal down more...

if you want a performance 3.8 go buy a GN or a TTA. If you want a performance camaro, go spend the extra money and get the z or SS. It's not worth trying to make the NA 3.8 faster.

there are tons of mods for the 96 97 3.8 you just have to be car crazy and be able to stay on the computer for hour they have MSD ign. for around $280 but you have to get 3 coil pack relays which run $80 each , 8.5 mm wires run $48 - $120 (hotter spark is a plus) headers pacesetter $195 . pulleys $140 , cold air intakes $85 - $280 , 160 degree termo. $ 30 , throttlebodys $225 , Prochargers $3,600
HERE ARE SOME WEB SITE THAT WILL HELP ON ALL THESE

tbyrnemotorsports.com , performancecenter.com , speedyperformanceparts.com , camarov6.com , rksports.com ,
ammperformance.com
YOU WILL FIND EVERYTHING LISTED AT THESE SITES

And of corse 3.73 gears from your local shop ( A MUST ) $ 300 at most
and as far as chips go don't waste or time
