I doubt the guy's that entered in the koenigsegg will again. It had many problems along the way last year. It broke down and had to be repaired at every checkpoint. Then on the final leg it got impounded. Talk about unlucky!

Ya, I heard about the troubles with the Koenigsegg. Here's the story. It was posted in another forum, non-AF.

The owner actually had ordered one which was being built for him for this event. About a month before Gumball, they told him that it wouldn't be ready in time. So he went and found someone who owned one already and bought theirs and shipped it over. So yes, now he has two.

The first day, we were in San Francisco and he was revving his engine for the crowd when he blew an oil gasket. Oddly enough a VW one fits his engine so he goes to the VW dealership. For some reason, they can't give him one - most likely they don't have one in stock. So what does he do? He buys the VW with the right part and takes it off that. This is obviously a man who gets things done.

So anyway, they never made it Reno. Blown water pipe. So he ships it to a McLaren dealership in Las Vegas for repairs. The car was ready to go that morning, and after a really long day it made it to San Antonio at around 12:30 last night. I'm not sure how it's running so far today. Hopefully we'll see it in New Orleans.

This story is about the 2003 Gumball of course. Rich bastard bought a VW like it was a hotwheels.

I just love these BS rumours. I was there. and I can assure you, they are simply not true.

I helped him find the gasket from another dealer. No car was purchased. The Koenigsegg did blow a coolant hose. Big deal, lots of cars do that.

Those were the only problems it did have, and both were fixed relatively quickly.

The car was impounded because the owner was speeding at well over 100mph. Hardly the fault of the car.

And there is no McLaren dealership in Las Vegas...

No worries...I was in a convoy with a Viper when it blew its coolant hose as well. Those hoses just like to, um, blow.

I was under the impression that the buying of the VW was true, that’s how it was portrayed in the DVD. Maybe they put that in to make the situation seem more crazy or something.

Did they really get the top speed out of it like they say they did?

yer, they did, apparently, if you go to the gumball3000 website, and go to where the movie bit is that is coming out, it says something like (off the top of my head) "watch as the owner of a koenigsegg cc8s talks his way out of a speeding ticket in which he was clocked at 242 miles per hour!!

in the movie he says he hit 237-240 and 'broke the speedometer' and he saw a cop, hit the brakes and got clocked doing 127
