Reset check engine light??

I have a 97 ford ranger and the check engine light has been on for 3 yrs. Time has come for inspection and they refuse to do it with the check engine light on... I've gotten quotes up to 600 to get it shut off. Is there ANY WAY I can shut it off myself? Thanks in advance

Disconnect the battery for about 15 minutes. but it will come back on sometime later. Go to an AutoZone if in your area & they can read the codes for free. Then you can fix the problem to eliminate CEL, I'm sure for alot less than $600.Post the code here if your not sure what it means or how to fix it. Good Luck!

Anywhere from it reaching operating temp to a week. It all depends on what is causing the CEL to come on. You need to have the codes read to see what exactly the problem is, hopefully find a parts store that does it free like AutoZone.
