Coolant Leak near Intake Manifold- 01 V-6

The car is sitting at around 60k miles and I dont beleive anyone took care of the car before hand...I recently had noticed a coolant leak near the Intake Manifold(driver Side). Im unable to see it due the leak being hidden in the manifold. My best guess is the gasket. Anyone has better suggestions.

Re: Coolant Leak near Intake Manifold- 01 V-6

If the coolant is filling that little valley right at the top, it is most likely the intake gaskets leaking. Some had the head gaskets crack, but that leaks down the back. A dye test will tell which one it is.
Also, take off the oil cap and check for sludge inside it, this will tell if you can hold off on fixing it or if you should do it now.
99% chance it is the intake gasket. They all leak.

Thanks for the info. I would have to go with the Intake gasket. It leak out near the bolt to driver side of the manifold and seeps down to where the transmission is.
I will give further updates and pics this weekend.
Thanks

Same thing happened to my '99 3.4L se last year. It was the intake gasket. This is a CHRONIC problem for these engines.

Re: Coolant Leak near Intake Manifold- 01 V-6

I have to mention that if you replace one gasket you might as well replacem all cus there will be more leaks. This is a VERY common gm problem that affects most makes and models , the valve covers dont even have gaskets just silicone and they tend to leak like snot on a lil kid on a cold day. Also same thing happened to me at 100kmiles
and it even leaked inside , inside before outside actually and almost costed me an engine. (damn , i have extended warranty and 100 bucks for a new engine = woohoo suckers lol) But gm suggests replacing all gaskets for the whole engine that involve coolent. At 60,000 miles replacing all gaskets parts and labour 500 bucks without a warranty , still worth doing rather than buying a new one for 7 grand and paying 2grand to install it.

I work for GM, am fully certified, and am on the GM forum on a regular basis and I have never heard gm suggest you replace "all gaskets for the whole engine that involve coolent(?). Also, new long blocks are nowhere near $7k, more like low 2's.
So, you have ported upper and lower manifolds and your extended warranty paid for replacing intake gaskets?
