Angry Need radio

There I was, driving along with my cd playing, listening to an audiobook on the way to work.... and the ^&*$# thing jammed. Tried unsuccessfully to get the CD out. Drove to the Honda dealer and he said come back in a week, will take 4 hours to remove it, need to send back to Honda, will take several weeks..... so, I went to the local radio shop that Honda uses for aftermarket work. They took the radio out, removed the stuck CD, but it still won't work. Honda factory will not repair, as the radio shop opened the case. I expected that, but figured what the hell, I didn't want to wait the several weeks.

So, now I need a replacement radio. This is the one in the 2003 Accord EX-V6, that has all the controls for radio, heat, A/C, etc., with the 6 CD changer.

If anyone has removed one of these from their car to put in an aftermarket unit, I would be interested in buying your original radio. Or, if anyone knows where I can get one without having to go back to Honda and have them rip me off big time, that would be appreciated also.

Thanks.

Wes-the-Pilot

PS: I know I can probably find one in a salvage yard, but there aren't a lot of 2003 Accord EX-V6 wrecks with the radio intact and I would like to get this thing fixed.

I am not really much into after market stuff and given that this unit drives everything, including the heat and A/C controls, I would prefer to stay with a factory unit.

I didn't know that Crutchfield had OEM equipment. Do they? In any case, someone put one up for sale in e-bay yesterday and I intend to buy it, or at least bid on it until it gets to the point of being ridiculous.

Re: Need radio

Wes

Your out of luck, unless you want to purchase a brand new unit from honda. I am assumming that your radio has the duel climate controls on the LED face of the radio at the bottom. If this is so, your climate control is integrated in the radio itself. There are no after market radios that will fit in the 2003/4 Accord that will also control your air and heat.

Re: Need radio

Wes,

Maybe a junk yard with a new honda wreck would be your best way to go.

I'm glad that someone finally read the original message! Yes, my radio and climate control panel are all integrated. Yes, I know that an aftermarket radio is problematic (unless I never want to know what the temperature or fan setting might be).

There is a guy selling a 2003 Accord unit on e-bay. I checked with my local Honda dealer today and they confirmed that there is only ONE 6 disk changer for the Accord in 2003, so it has to be the right one. Now, whether it really works or not is another animal, but before I lay out $700 for a new one from Honda.....

By the way, I am told that the reason my first radio jamed (CD changer) is that the tolerance on the radio is very tight and burned CDs are just a tad too thick and cause jams. Wonderful, glad that Honda told me that before I had this stupid problem........

Rob, thanks for the input.....

Work around to your NEED RADIO problem

Wes,

If everything except your cd is working on the radio, the unit can be fitted with and external changer or cd player. The cheap way would be to get the converter for about 100 bucks which turns the aux of the radio (on the back of the unit) into an RCA input. Then you could use a portable CD player or MP3 Player.

Check this link out for the adaptor.

http://www.logjamelectronics.com/sounsnhond3.html

Or you could get Honda OEM equipment like the following (which plugs directly into port on the back of the radio.

Cassette Deck
6 CD External Changer
CD Player
XM Radio

No I don't work for Honda, I just own a 2003 Honda Accord and love it, but perfer aftermarket equipment, and found all this out during my investigations.

Hope this all helps.

New Accord Radio/ CD changer

Wes,
Buddy Haynes owns a company called Specialty Services, Inc. that specializes in OEM electronic products out of salvage vehicles. I have made purchases from him. He is trustworthy and guarantees whatever he sells you. He has a 2003 Accord unit on e-bay right now at the following link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2478259355 If you would prefer you can call him at (256) 831-7530 (Oxford, AL). I promise you won't find a better guy to deal with and he will find exactly what you need at a very attractive price. Give him a try and you can tell him that Jason Bellamy sent you. Let me know how everything turns out!

Thanks. I sent him an e-mail to see if he has one to fit my car (2003 EX-V6). I think that the one I bid on is not the right one, based upon my comparison of the faceplate with the one in my car. I still have the faceplate, so as long as the radio is the same, it should work, but so far I haven't been too lucky.

Wes
(I mentioned that you sent me, for whatever that is worth!)
