help with a cracked intake manifold...

Hi Folks,

Well, I have *finally* fixed the stuttering/stalling & lurching that was occuring with my 1988 Sentra. A new idle switch and AFM(?), along with a complete tune up seems to have fixed all my previous stalling issues.

However, while diagnosing and repairing all that, my mechanic found I have a crack/leak in my "Intake manifold" as he called it. This vaccum leak is now causing my idle to flucuate (not too drastically). While I can drive it as is, my idle does hunt, up and down. The shops estimate to reair: $695 (with gaskets. How kind). I'm not sure my car is worth that much. It does only have 85k, all with one owner. Before this leak, it was running really well, getting 33mph.

Can anyone tell me if I can weld my intake manifold? Are they easy to replace? Does $695 sound high? Perhaps that is what it costs these days. Just not news we wanted to hear.

Any ideas or suggestions would really help. I'd like to keep my car, but I don't have a lot of $$ to put into it.

Thanks much,
Cheers,
dave

there isnt a way to effectively seal a crack with any kind of spray lol
you can try welding it, if u kno exactly where it is.
to be honest, you're better off replacing it. find a local salvage yard, they're almost sure to have one, and you definately wont pay $700 for it
