Yeah - thats about its only advantage. Unless you're going to shoot for 500hp+ it won't make any difference.

93 also has a "stronger" output shaft.

if by "stronger" output shaft you mean the 25 spline, that also came in many 92 vr-4's, i know this for sure because mine was a 92 and it had a 25 spline. i think they were all made out of the same material but i am not sure.

also, if anyone knows, did the 93 come with the forged crank or just the 25 spline and the 4 bolt main?

also, do these benifits of the 93's all also apply to the late 92's or just the 25 spline?

i could just take off my oil pan really easily and check to see if it is a 4 bolt or not but i am lazy

Re: 92 vr4 vs 93 vr4

I was under the impression that all the 93 benefits came with late 92s, but I'm not 100% positive.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

I believe the 93 had the forged crank as well as 4 bolt main and 25 spline but i'm not absolutely sure.

the only upgrade the 92.5's have is the 25 spline output shaft. you have to move to the 93 to get the forged crank and 4 bolt main.

Re: 92 vr4 vs 93 vr4

Ah, thanx for the clarification. What about the new pistons, was that 93 or 94?

Re: 92 vr4 vs 93 vr4

I didn't know that there was a difference in the pistons in any of the years. I thought all the years had just cast pistons and not forged?

Re: 92 vr4 vs 93 vr4

this is what I found from a previous post from talskinyguy

"Listing the differences.
93 has 4 bolt main, 91-92 does not
93 has forged connecting rods, 91-92 does not
93 has forged crankshaft, 91-92 does not
93 has forged steel inserts inside cast aluminum pistons, 91-92 does not
93 has forged steal 25 spline output shaft, 91-92 have a cast 18 spline.
93 has stronger internals in the transfer case, and is a different design than the 91-"

that is what I meant by change in pistons.

Re: 92 vr4 vs 93 vr4

Yeah, I remembered that they did start putting stronger pistons in the 93's. I had just assumed you had meant forged pistons. My bad.
