Question Recommendations needed for Bay Area (Tri-Valley) Mechanic 4 engine work

I am REALLY new at this so please forgive me if I do something incredibly lame. I have a 92 3000GT SL. I really love it a lot. It only has 70,000 miles and now it's having serious engine trouble. I baby this car and I have no idea what has happened but it apparently needs the engine rebuilt according to the one mechanic who has it now. I would love to find someone who works on these cars and could do the job rather than where it's at now, plus I would also like a second opinion. PLEASE if anyone could recommend a reasonable priced mechanic it would really help. I dont need this car to be a fast car with all the extra's everyone seems to have after reading some of these stories, It's just my everyday, take my kids to school and do everything car that I do love. I have come to realize that I dont want a new car, I want my 3000. I have had a few cars in my life and I can honestly say this is my very favorite one. Not sure why, but Im so happy with it and dont want to give it up. Im happy with it and want to keep it till Im too old to drive! If you can help please reply, I would truly appreciate it. Thanx so much... Tresie CCCYY4U (Tresie's too wise for you!) yea right 3000gt owner as of 1/1/2000.

Re: Recommendations needed for Bay Area (Tri-Valley) Mechanic 4 engine work

Well I'm sure everyone would love to help. My first 2 pieces of advice:
1) the mechanic said it needed to be rebuilt. Ask him exactly why, and write it all down, every broken/worn part that is wrong with the car, then post up his account of the situation on this page, so that we can point you in the direction of necessary repairs, prices, and so forth. Alot of mechanics don't know our cars and many are money-hungry too, and will suggest the most expensive project on earth to get money out of you.

2) www.3si.org is another great 3000gt board. It has a forum that is split up into locations, this may assist you in finding competant 3000gt enthusiasts near you that could either help you or point you to a mechanic which will. Good luck, and keep us posted. O yeah, welcome to AF.

-15Gs, 3sx aluminum pulley, FMIC, SAFC, walboro pump, EVO 560ccs, and Meth Injection Kit all waiting to go in shortly.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.
