Re: 1997 sunfire No headlights

I know that this may be a long shot, but in my 96 I had all the lights but no headlights. I needed a new combi switch, whatever that is. Good luck

Re: 1997 sunfire No headlights

My headlights in my 97 sunfire went out too. It's pretty easy to fix. A new headlight switch is only $50 and you can get it from any auto parts store (Discount Auto, Auto Zone, etc).

You do have to take your steering wheel off, which can be a bear, but someone at the store can tell you how to do it.

i have the same problem with my 96 sunfire. I tried replacing the switch and it didnt help anything. If you do try that though you dont have to take off the steering wheel. I thought th same but we only had to take the top piece off. If anyone has any other ideas let me know please !!

Re: 1997 sunfire No headlights

In sunfires there is a problem with the headlight wires behind the headlights shorting out or being chaffed. I've heard it burns out the switches or just causes the headlights not to work. Talk to the pontiac dealer i'm sure they can tell you what wire and where. unless they try to give you the runaround.

I had the same problem with my 96. We checked everything from replacing the bulbs, checked the fuses, changed the relay, and checked the wires from the headlights all the way back to the inside of the car...finally resorted to seeing a mechanic...it was the combi switch on the steering wheel..cost me a damn fortune..$275 CD.. I didnt want to deal with the whole steering wheel and air bag tingy so I sent it in..all worked great after that...Good luck looking...

Where is this headlight relay located? Is there some way to bypass it to see if it is truely the problem source? I'd hate to spend $50+ for the relay only to find that it's not the problem. Also, if it is the wiring, would the headlight still come on when you pull the high beam lever?

My father-in-law just gave us a 97 convertable that my wife drove up from FL to MA over the weekend. She went over a bump in CT and the headlights went out. Luckily she was able to get it home, but now I have to get the lights fixed so I can register it.

I've had this car for less than two days and already I have 3 things to fix! I hope it's not a sign of things to come.
