Every Heard of A Merkur???

Hey ladies and gents, Recentlty I have come across not so much of a classic, but an old car. A 1987 Merkur XRTi 2.3L EFI Turbo. This car is amess!!! It would need like a complete over haul and the only reason I am even tryin to fix it, is because I think it would be a good project. Anyway, I have this engine that i am going to take out of a 1987 Ford ThunderBird, and I am going to do a swap. Please help me out if u guys have any advice on whether or not i should bother, and if u guys kno anything at all about swaping engines!! Thanks!~!

Is the T-bird equipped with the same turbo engine?
If so it will be a bolt-in. These are good tough motors that are capable of developing a good amount of power. Depending on the Merkur's condition, it should be worth it.

The Merkur was nothing more than the European Ford Sierra (a great car) and yes it had the same engine as the Tbird turbo coupe and Mustang SVO. For prformance mods in the USA consult Esslinger they do a lot of work for the Ford 2.3 turbo even make big horsepower crate motors. As well there's a company in Oregon called Rapido that can help as well.

A guy at our local car show has a black merkur. He replaced the turbo 4 with a built 302. His car is very clean, I'll have to take a picture of it next time I see it.

That's like those fools who buy SVOs then swap in 5.0s. Or if someone bought a Syclone/Typhoon/Grand National and dropped in a 350.

It's not quite the same as swaping out a sy/ty/gn engine in favor of a 350 since the turbo merkur engine is shit to begin with. Personally, if I aquired a merkur, it would get a 460.

the thnderbird turbo coupes are the exact same motor as the merkur but you cant use the intercooler out of the turbo coupe. if you want a intercooler you will have to use a thunderbird supercoupe and the intercooler and radiator will bolt right in to where the old radiator out of the merkur goes and even the electric fan plugs in without no modification
