from what i remember seeing in my friends automatic compared to mine all the gauges were exactly the same except the automatic has the display for what gear you are in right between your speedometer and your rpms.

Mainly I'm wondering if the speedometer will read the same MPH on Automatic or Manual transmissions, I'm thinking about replacing the instrument cluster with one that has a tach since mine does not have a tach. I have the basic 1996 Eclipse.

that wont work cause you dont have the wiring for it.... just go buy a autometer tach or somthing! the difference between auto and manual is the redline... auto redlines 500rpms less

Do you mean the wiring for the Tach? I wasn't sure if it was there or not, I called the Mitsubishi dealership here and they wouldn't let me talk to a mechanic but they told me they didn't think a different wiring harness would be used for cars with or without a tach.
do you know where to wire an after market tach on a 1996 2.0 nt eclipse? Thanks

Thats the problem, I'm not sure which wire on the computer to hook to, the rest I can figure out. Does anyone know?
This is a 1996 2.0 DOHC Non Turbo Eclipse. Thanks

I bet if you looked around you could find the pinouts. I would try a dsm board and look in there N/T section. You best bet is to go to www.2gnt.com and see what they have to say. There should be a wealth of info on that page.

Bought a used instrument cluster that also had the tach. from E-bay, all the wiring and connectors were already in the car, very easy to change out, all the gauges work fine including the tach.

Mileage is not wrong, I used the same speedometer out of my old cluster, all gauges in this cluster make a connection to the circuit board through their mounting screws, whoever set this up this was was thinking. take out the top two screws in the cluster, pop off the black cover, remove 4 more screws and remove the cluster to change bulbs, gauges etc.
