Re: idle air controller

they go bad alot on the newer escorts.
it controls your idle.
it's expensive and if you don't replace it you are stuck with that anoyying light and with that light you would fail inspection

Re: idle air controller

Yep... the IAC simply controls the airflow to maintain your enigne's idle. When it is faulty your engine will not idle correctly.
Out of curiousity, what is the problem with your car? Why do they suggest replacing it?

Re: idle air controller

That doesn't sound like the IAC at all... not to me anyway. Some basic tune-up stuff may go a long way here.
Have you checked the condition of your air filter and your spark plugs? Try running an injector cleaner through the system.
A vacuum leak could cause your stalling, but I am not sure why the car is so hard to start again.... I suppose the IAC could be to blame, but I would suspect that more if the car stalled at idle, not while going down the road. Hmm...
When you start the car for the first time of the day, let it sit and idle for awhile... pop the hood and listen for a hissing sound around the area of the intake manifold or from the hoses on top of the manifold. If you hear one then you have a vacuum leak to fix.
Good luck to you... if you come up with any more info to share pass it along...

Re: idle air controller

well youdidn't say the dealer's computer falgged the IAC... that makes a huge difference.
Even so, if you have not had your plugs and filters changed in awhile you may want to do it.
So you know, the IAC is only about $20-30 from AutoZone... the dealer is probably taking you to town for the cost of parts.
I changed my IAC a few months ago and was done in less than two minutes... hope they don't nail you for an hour labor.
