To fix this problem you will need to remove your door panel. Buy a tool that will pry up under the panel and remove plastic holders. Use a drill to remove the rivets that hold the motor in place. There is a bi - metalic safety switch that opens when too much current is drawn replace it or do the unthinkable solder it closed and bypass the safety interlock. Use a 10-32 tap and bolt it back in and it should work. don't get your head caught in the window because it will keep going up until it blows a fuse or the motor burns up only if you have bypassed the safety switch. I hope this helps it sure saved me money. I have no children at home and I am the only driver.

Re: Power Window will not work
I drilled out the wrong rivets and had to use 1/4-20 to put the whole assy. back in. Then I drilled the correct ones out and quickly replaced the motor. My brother said there was no way a safety switch existed but my window went from going up and down 2 times before it stopped to not even being able to go half way down before the safety tripped. Took 100,000 miles to go from one to the other. One thing I noticed when I changed it. I looked inside as I tested the new motor and saw how hard it is on the tracks, arms and rollers when the window is allowed to go all the way down. I stop it before it gets to fully open position now.

I have a 94 Astro and both quit working. It was going to rain the next day,so I jumper one of the wires from the frame and I got it up.I thought it might be a open ground, but I was wrong.I went back and did the same thing again and it blew the fuse. So,now I am back to square one.The motors seem to be working ok.
I have a book, but its not chilton John Bauman |

Re: Power Window will not work
I have a 92 that the passenger window motor won't get power. The motor is still good, and the switch is new, but the thing won't work. I've never heard of any sort of safety switch, nor have I ever seen anything like it. I've been working on this thing and a 95 before.

Re: Power Window will not work
My 90 Astro both windows also don't work aren't they wired like they did on older 81' Camaros with just a p/w switch connected directly to the motors ? Any recomendations are appreciated

Re: Power Window will not work
I had the same problems with my 90. It was a frayed wire in the boot. Other things can also go in the same place because of the flwxing of the boot over time, so you may want to check all the wires, not just the power window wires to prevent having to go in there again when the power locks stop working. All has been good on mine for two years now!

Wanted to drop a line here and let others know that after replacing a power window switch and motor I finally found my problem.
I read this forum and saw the broken wire notes on the door flex joint checked it and sure enough the blue and white wire was broken completely into. After I spliced it all switches work fine now. Before the Drivers side switch would not work at all and the passengers side would only work in one direction, up. looks like I'm the 3rd or 4th person to have this problem, so consider it as a real check first item. |
