Question Front Differential Hose

Hi there,

I have a 93 JGC 4.0L. While I was removing my air filter housing I noticed a hose that was not attached to anything. I followed the hose down to the front differntial housing. What is purpose of this hose? Is it suppose to attach to something in the engine compartment?

Hi Dale,

Thanks for responding to my thread.

Do you mean the end of the hose that resides in the engine compartment should have a vent on it? Should the hose be fastened to something in the engine compartment?

Al

Re: Re: Re: Re: Front Differential Hose

Just touching up... the hose is to keep water out of the differential when you decide to cross a stream or what ever or when you launch a boat, (theres one just like it in the rear housing). Dale is saying that there should be an instert in the end of the hose, (my isuzu didnt have an insert)..just make sure the hose end is up high in the engine compartment and if there isnt an end on it, get a cheap fuel filter and clamp it to the end of the hose (if your dealer doesnt have the original). this will keep the differential from getting an crud in it.

Hi Leowolf,

Wouldnt the fuel filter act as a plug defeating the whole breathing process altogether?

Thanks.
