Unhappy ...invention idea...

i actually had, what i thought was a decent idea for an invention. so i remembered seeing commercials for ISC (Invention Submission Corporation) on television and decided to give them a call. to make a very long story short, it costs around $900 dollars to have them make your idea presentable to possible corporations. after that you can either, take the book and present it to companies on your own, or you can pay from an additional $800 (for the simple package) to $1400 (for the deluxe package). you have to already be wealthy to attempt this. with those packages they will showcase your idea at trade shows and present it to various companies. now if your one of the lucky ones, 1 out of 100 chance, to actually "land" a contract, you'll get the money you spent earlier back, and you'll split the money 80/20 with ISC. so what it basically comes down to is that if someone has $1500 burning a hole in their pocket, and wants an idea to submit, just give me $500 and we'll call it even.

Re: ...invention idea...

It's insane that you have to spend so much just to show your idea off. I'm pretty sure that they just pocket the money and could do it for at least an eighth of the price they're wanting you to pay.

Re: ...invention idea...

Do they still get 80/20 if you pay them to make your idea presentable, but not showcase it at trade shows?

If so, what a rip off.

if you pay the money to get a presentable idea, and present it to companies on your own, you get to keep all of the winnings, if you will.

Re: ...invention idea...

my business teacher says it's a big scam. there are two types of patents; one for the idea and one for the design( based on how it looks). they'll sell you a design patent, then take your idea, get a real idealogical patent, change the design so as to not infringe on the patent they sold you and score big off your idea.

i'm not sure if those are the proper names for the patents but i'm sure you get thie gist of the scam.

what i wonder is what stops them from saying "i'm sorry that ideas been taken" and then just doing it themselves.

a statement of confidentiality, which was signed by my mother, the ISC representative and I. even though, he took a polaroid of the prototype, and has all the notes of the meeting. which leaves me nothing to prove that it was them that used my idea in the event that i see it on the shelves at my local supermarket.

I just really don't think that it's worth it in general...
