highlander mud flaps guards

I was wondering if anyone is noticing any "tearing" on their mud flaps / mud guards? Our 2002 Highlander is only 2+ years old, with 60,000 miles, but both of the front mud flaps have torn at the bottom area where the bottoms of the flaps are secured to the body with a small bolt.

They are not under warranty. In looking at other Highlanders around my town, and on the road, I have noticed at least two other vehicles with the front mud flaps torn in what appears to be same area. I am thinking these are "design or material defective".

Anyone else out there have this problem???

Yes my mothers Highlander has the same problem, replaced the drivers side already, the pass isnt gonna hold long, the main reason for her is... she goes "offroad" (We're in the export business so shes always in the fields). I forgot how much it was to replace them (~$50?) Cant really think of a solution exept to take them off?

Re: highlander mud flaps guards

Yes, I also have that problem w/ my Highlander. Went to dealer today (ea. will cost $74.95 to replace). Told me that they have not been labeled defective or on recall. I told them I do not want to replace them unless the newer mud guards are made better, unfortunately, still making them the same. I have seen quite a few around town with the same problem, dissappointing. I love my vehicle, this is the only complaint I have with it.
