How much would this cost-bodywork

Theres a whole about the size of a quarter in the rear right panel of a car. The area around it (about 1 1/4 inch in every direction) is rusted and worn. Theres some more rust spots all around it but they havent rusted through completely. About how much would it cost to repair that at a bodyshop? Paint and all?

Dude, if i was you, i would just do it yourself. a hole the size of a quarter isnt that bad. i would grind the spot down and put some bondo in it then sand it down with a low grit then a high grit

Re: How much would this cost-bodywork

I wouldnt use bondo. I'd use fiberglass. Go to advanted auto, pick up a half a gallon of resin and some fiberglass stuff. Me and my buddy just started fiberglassing, and its SOOO FUN. Now just sand down the body with 400 grit when your done over lapping say 3 layers over the hole.. Well cut out the hole i'd say, then fiberglass that. Its so easy once u get hte hang of it man!

oh deer lord, somebody get out the gun.

please, do not listen to this boy, he has ABSOLUTLY no idea about anything. shaddr3's idea is much better, go with fiberglass. If you have access to a welder and sheet metal that would be even better, but that also requires some welding skills.

and yea, i'd say weld it! sparks are funner then sanding hehehe just dont let ur pants catch fire (way 2 many experiances with that)

but if u dont have a welder then try fiberglass, thats fun 2 use too, just DONT fill it with Bondo cuz it WILL fall out

WELLLL....i know the fix for it, and i have access to welding equipment so i would do the sheetmetal deal, but the reason im asking is becuase this crx that im looking at has that nice hole and im looking for bargaining points...i just wanna know what the average bodyshop cost would be

Lol it doesnt spark when you weld, its more like a huge ass light saber that will blind you if your not careful :-p. You still have to sand if you go weld, and I suggest that he doesnt weld it if he hasnt welded before. He might burn the metal of his body welding, making the hole worse. I do fiberglass and welding work, and I suggest fiberglassing it. Hey its just my 2 cents.

u dont sand a weld, cuz its hard to sand and smooth out a big weld, u use a grinder! which means more sparks!!!

god i love having my own welder, and having welding class at school, except for when i see dumbasses abusing the equipment
