Re: lingo

Powerband is the range of RPMs at which the power/pull of the bike is most easily felt by the rider.

Re: lingo

I was asking cause i dont know your length of car and other knowledge like that.

Tranny= Transmission
LSD= Limited slip Differencial
Dyno= Dynomometer (Hooks your car up to computers to test the horsepower and tourque)
HP= Horsepower
TRQ= Tourque
RPMs= Revolutions per minute

Your gunna have to give me some clues to what else and then i can do more.

Re: lingo

i know the basics like rpm, tranny and hosepower and torque(got a question about thse two though) i know very very basic things just not the advanced stuff i didnt grow up around bikes and didnt ever learn car engine necessities. i do need to know the difference between torque and horsepower. from what i know torque is how fast you take off and horsepower is how fast you gain speed after a certain point. thanx for the help.

Re: lingo

1 horse power =33,000 foot lbs. A horse exerting 1 horsepower can raise 330 pounds of coal 100 feet in a minute, or 33 pounds of coal 1,000 feet in one minute, or 1,000 pounds 33 feet in one minute. You can make up whatever combination of feet and pounds you like. As long as the product is 33,000 foot-pounds in one minute, you have a horsepower. or if i just confused the hell out of you, go to www.howstuffworks.com to see the diagram and learn alot more on hp and torque.

Re: lingo

gear rations make the rear tire spin at a different speed then the engine. It makes it so when your engine is at 12,000RPM, your rear wheel is not at 12,000RPM. Gears are designed around the power of the engine and the speed it needs to attain.

Lowside - a crash where the bike falls flat into a turn.
Highside - a crash where the bike flips to the opposite side of the lean. These are the most dangerous crashes.
Stoppie - Also called an endo, where your commonly preload your weight on the front wheel and stop hard enough to pull your rear wheel off the ground.
Wheelie - ...
Two Up - Riding with a passenger
Ergos - Made up by the trail rake and angles the bike was designed with, usually in reference to comfort levels.
Countersteer - Push left, go left. Push right, go right.
MSF - Motorcycle Safety Foundation
Dresser - Usually a cruiser that has so much storage I could bring all my clothes haha.
UJM - Universal Japanese Motorcycle, now just referred as Metric Bikes.
Contact Patch - The VERY little portion of your tire that actually is in contact with the ground.
Sissy Bar - The passenger back rest
Lane Splitting - Sharing lanes with other bikes, or if you are crazy/stupid enough, sharing with cars.
Squid - Sportbike, no gear, reckless driving, no training, no brain.

Short of regearing your bike (literally changing the gears and chain of your bike) you can't change the gear ratio.

Hmm...anybody know the origin of this term? As a biologist I must point out that squid, like all cephalopods, are actually quite intelligent. Surely the king of invertebrates would be smart enough to wear full gear while riding.

Holy Jeebus, I need a vacation.
Sorry people.

back to the shadows...
