Newbie would like better sounding exhaust

Hi all,

I have a 2001 GT Spyder. I used to have a 3000GT VR4, so I have resigned myself to the fact that my Spyder will never have that speed.
The fact that it is: 1) new, and 2) a convertible, more than makes up for it.

What I really miss is that throaty exhaust sound.

Now- I do not want to do major construction on this car (headers, etc).
Can I get away with simply having a after-market muffler put on?
(none of that cat-back stuff).

As I said, I am interested in a upgrading the exhuast sound, not trying to get a HP boost.

Can I swap only the muffler and achieve this?
If so, which muffler will give me the best sound? (I know this is
subjective). Most mufflers I look up are only for G2's.

And please, no coffeecan sound... I'm like the current sound ok, but it is too quiet. I would also go for something a more racier sounding.

Thx,
Wood

Magnaflow Race series muffler. It is ~$100 and will give a deep tone. Do not remove your resonators though, as that will rice it up.

Happy Rulez? Anti-rice has returned.

Thanks Johnny

As I type, I am getting 3 inch pipes and a Magnaflow installed.

Actually, you have no need for 3" pipes if you are staying NA. The stock 2.5" pipe diameter is best suited for the V6. You will lose power with the 3" exhaust.

Re: Newbie would like better sounding exhaust

it might sound funny but replacing my air boxes and intake with a cold air really improved the sound of my gs without giving too much of a high pitched rice sound

The Injen Race Division Intake or the AEM CAI are the two best ones.
