Temp gauge occasionally works

Hi gang,

The temp gauge on my 2002 jetta gls vr6 is on the fritz. It sometimes works and most times it doesn't. I don't thinks it's a thermostat problem b/c when it works, it always registers the normal operating temp. I think it's a bad connection to the gauge or something b/c there's no pattern that I can recogize as to when it works and when it doesn't. Sometimes it'll owrk for a whole day, other times it works for 5 minutes. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks, stephan
