Putting a pedal cover over the accel pedal

Ok i bought some Ractive pedalcovers for my 98' malibu. The brake cover went on no problem. Im having damn horrible luck with the accelerator pedal. Is there a way to detach it or somehting so i dont have to squeeze downthere and struggle yet neevr get it on?
