Thinking about trying my first One

I just need to know a few things?

1. How much will i spend on tools and paint to begin with?

2. Can i use regular spray paint?

Sorry if these have been asked before but i would like to know.

Re: Thinking about trying my first One

1. tools.... depends onw hat tool you own. if you have 0 things for working, some tweasers, few sets of pliers, could hobby knives. tools can be ordered offline for a good price. if you need to start fromthe ground up with tools and things, i would say tools maybe 50-100$ depends on brand and quality. paints, there are a variety, like like tamiya ect. i would say buy a few spray cans and some bottle paint and a brush. paints i would get basic colors. spend about 20-50$ on paints. after you get all this stuff it should be easy to start.

2. regular spray as in walmart kind? or like tamiya. both will work, just dont over spray it or get it to thick

Welcome !

My advice is to leave AF now while the goings good otherwise you'll never have any cash left at the end of each month !!!

Naaaaaaaa......... just kidding, it is addictive here though.

Look forward to seeing your first build.

Later, Mike.

Welcome to AF, what mike says is tru. This hobby is fun but just browsing new and old threads puts many expensive thoughts in your head. I would love to see everyone's credit card statement!

Re: Thinking about trying my first One

pliers are a tool generally used in automotive work.
don't worry about what you use them for in modeling b/c you don't. Check out the link at the top of the fourm titled FAQ. that will tell you everything you REALLY need.

Re: Re: Thinking about trying my first One

Welcome. Read the FAQ.

To build a model, you need very few tools. I would suggest to get just a few, and then over time accumulate more. You could probably get away with, at first, a hobby knife, glue, tweezers, and a few emory boards. However, over time you will accumulate a huge amount of tools. You will also need a few paints. Depending on how detailed you want to be, and how dedicated you are to sticking with it, you can either get a slew of paint or just a couple. If you're trying modelling on for size, I'd suggest looking at the instructions of the kit you want to build, and grouping the colors by likeness and getting as few as you can (ie: just get flat black instead of flat, semi-gloss, and gloss black; just red instead of red and orange). Be sure, however, to at least use a spray can on the body for best results.

I sure do! I use pliers all the time. I have a couple pairs of needle-nose pliers and a pair of flat jaw pliers I use all the time for bending metal and wire and the like. True, you probably don't need them for your first, box-stock model, but you will need them sometime along the line. 95% of the tools in my tool box don't come out but once per model, but when they do they sure are handy.

Re: Thinking about trying my first One

i find it great that you use the word "one" to replace model car... lol

modelling can be an expensive hobby, depending on the quality you're going for in your builds... for example, if you insist on spending the least amount of money possible, paints, tools, etc should cost around 20-30 bucks... if you want to go more for quality, you can spend anywhere up to 50-70 bucks... really depends...

ofcourse, that doesnt include the kit itself... depending on whether you want a super-easy, goes-together-like-pink-and-white kind of build, (something like Tamiya would release) you can spend upwards of 20 bucks... revell and amt can cost 6 bucks and up...
