exhaust concerns

Hi guys,

Any feedback will be much appreciated.

I want to upgrade my 96 camaro factory exhaust. So I bought a dual exhaust muffler from a guy for about $50. He claimed that it is from a newer model Z28 and since it does have a factory model on it (GM 992132). I was pretty estatic at that time, so I bought it anyway.
After that, when I look the muffler seriously, it is bigger than my camaro's. It measures about 26.75" long and about 11' wide. Its dual outlet measure about 2.25" each and the inlet seems about 2.75 - 3". Now I start to wonder can it actually fit into my factory exhaust.
Any thoughts on this?

Another thing is that: Since it came off from a Z28, it must be a V8 then. Hmm, anyone heard about fitting a V8 exhaust to a V6? I wonder if I do manage to get it installed, will it get my car into deeper trouble?

Thanks
Chris

Re: exhaust concerns

It should fit on your car with no problems. Any exhaust shop should be able to either change your pipe from the cat back to a 3" or make an adapter to fit the muffler. It should mount the same as the 6 cyl exhaust. There shouldn't be any real problems... Take it to a good exhaust shop and tell them to make it fit.

Re: Re: exhaust concerns

Hi,

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Some quick questions:
Do you think I will actually see a loss, rather than a gain, in my performance?
Will it sound weird though since I am fixing a V8 dual muffler to a V6 exhaust?

Thanks
Chris

Re: Re: Re: exhaust concerns

You'll gain some ponies by letting the engine breath better. The exhaust will not sound like a Z28. With a 6 cyl there is no deep tone like the v8. It will most likely sound like an import. But if the sound doesn't make a difference to you than go for it.

GM did make a dual exhaust system for the 6 cyl cars, but I think it was only availible on the RS's and you could only get it if you ordered the HO V6 engine.

Re: exhaust concerns

Well use the pipes take out the mufflers and put some glass paks in it and that will make it sould louder and maybe even deeper like a z28. the cheep glass paks are like 28 bucks give it a try. Let me know that is kinda interesting
