1987 Mercedes 420 SEL Instrument Cluster

I just purchased a 1987 Mercedes 420 SEL, the instrument panel lights are not working, does anyone know what do to fix this? The fuses have been checked.

try wiggling the dimmer knob on the dash , these seem to get dirty and make the dash lights not work
