730il EDC shocks

Hi all

I have a 1995 730il imported from singapore. It is a great car but unfortunately the leads from the edc shocks have perished due to the unde bonnet heat. The shocks are OK but of course no longer function wih edc. Are these repairable ie can the wiring be replaced without destroying the shock. Replacement items are very very expensive.

Cheers

Paul

I looked up a 1995 730iL in my Electronics Parts Catalog (ETK) and there is a part that looks like a small wiring harness on cars equipped with EDC that connects to the strut assembly. The BMW part number is:
34 52 1 182 076 and the description says, "Pulse Generator, ABS".

This may be what you're looking for but check with the BMW parts department first. I'm sure you can order it. The only other source would be a junkyard.

Thanks for that. I have had a look at the strut assembly and it appears that the wires go straight down into the damper itself. Could there be two versions? I think the one you mention is for the ABS braking system. I think the answer is to replace the shock with a used one even second hand these are $700 each Oh well --- Thanks again

Somewhere in the back of my mind, I think I read that the EDC is tied in with the ABS system. Probably, when the ABS becomes active, it sets the struts for optimal braking regardless of what the driver has selected with the dashboard switch. Also, the Bentley's repair manual says this:
"Cars with EDC III can be quickly identifed by inspecting the front strut assemblies. Cars with EDC III will have electrical wires coming from a set of switching solenoids at the lower section of each strut." I don't think cars without EDC have wiring to the strut at all.

Email me at [email protected] and I'll send you a copy of the diagram I was looking at and you can judge from that.
