Well... If you are looking at the new 2001 Prelude.
It has 200 horsepower/2.2L DOHC 16-Valve VTEC Engine.
Sorry couldn't find anything on the Acura.
:flash: Hope I was helpful.

DOHC stands for Dual Over Head Cam
SOHC stands for Single Over Head Cam

check out
www.howstuffworks.com/engines
and www. geocities.com/the_vtec_boi (Tech section)

The second has a great VTEC article.

The first is simple an awesome site!

It'll teach u butt-loads of info!

A DOHC will make more power than a SOHC will ever make. Each Cam Gear is assigned to work with the Intake and Exhaust side.

Sort of... what it means is that you have a cam that controls the lift on your intake valves and exhaust valves which gives you control of the valve lift when you are allowing air into your engine as well es expending it.

DOHC is simply a technology and is not the definition of power, there is a great deal that goes into building an engine and cams are only a small part of it. For instance the Nissan Sentra base engine (GA16DE) is a 1.6L DOHC engine, that makes 115 hp at the crank. Where as you probably are aware that the Civic EX engine is a SOHC 1.6L (D16A)engine which puts 127 hp to the crank, and also the Civic Si engine 1.6L (B16A) which makes 160 hp to the crank.

For more information on DOHC take a look at these links.... or hell just good to your favorite search engine and search for DOHC! You will get the opinions of people who know far, far, far more about engines than I...

http://www.team-integra.net/ti/faq/vtec/vtec.asp - explaination of DOHC VTEC ... very different from any DOHC engine without variable valve lift setup of some sort be it honda's toyotas mazda's nissan's whoever... damn good article too

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t13107.html - a very good post from this board on the differences of OHV engines (pushrod, S and D OHC engines)

http://list.miata.net/miata/1999-10/1526.html - another link

http://www.datsuns.com/Tech/ohv_vs_ohc.htm - okay that's it
