Hello to all. This is my first time on any kind of forum so if I seem to be unfamiliar to it that's because I am (does that sound about right?). Well, let me get to the point...I have a '90 integra LS (1.8L,5-spd sedan) with the mileage to prove it. I'm wondering if anyone could fill me in on some common problems associated with this car. Reason I'm asking is that the car is showing an intermittent hard start/no start condition. I'm thinking fuel pump but my sis' car ('91 Integra LS coupe,1.8L automatic) has been running with the same condition for over 2yrs now. Any info/personal experience is appreciated.

Re: intermittent no start/hard start
Does the motor turn over when it is in this condition?
It won't be the fuel pump when they go they go completely. If the motor does not turn over then it will be one of the following, Battery, starter, starter solenoid (which is attached to the starter), starter relay or the ignition switch. If the motor is trunnig over then it will be one of the following, distributor, ignition switch, or bad ecu, or a loose connection in a wire harness some where.

Re: intermittent no start/hard start
mine does the same thing. I will try to start it and it cranks and cranks but won't start. It won't even pop like it wants to start. I let it sit for 5 minutes with the key off and it fires right up. I just replaced my distributor and it still does that. Im guessing it's the computer getting confused. I won't be worried untill it won't start at all.

as far as fuel goes like whtteg stated above when fuel pumps go they just go, there's no in between stages of them. However you should check to make sure you're getting the proper fuel pressure and that fuel is reaching the injectors... you might also want to check the voltage on your crank sensor and MAF sensor to make sure they're working properly... you should also clean your MAF sensor even if it's not the cause it's a cheap way to improve the performance of an engine that has some years on it... you might also want to check the IAC and make sure the wiring going into it hasn't been damaged... and did you have a new alternator put in when you replaced the battery?

Re: intermittent no start/hard start
hey check it out i got a 91 integra rs i had the same problem with my car last summer look right above th oil filler cap on valve cover and you will see a round cap looking thing i think it is a choke but i'm not sure its attached to your intake manifold and has a vacuum line to the aie box ass. try changing the check valve in it or simply taking it off i did that and never had another problem but check it first reach under it and push up on the little rod coming out the bottom and have someone crank it it will fire up

Re: intermittent no start/hard start
I checked for power at the wiring harness connector (at the pump) and zilch. I stepped back to the pump relay and jumpered terminals 4 & 8 to the battery and tested for continuity. Relay checked good. I put the relay back and turned the key and the Integra started up with no drama. The relay might be screwing with me for sh!ts and giggles. Still looking for the answer.

Re: intermittent no start/hard start
update:star-log#5,6,04-1990.
We have not experienced any further non-activity of our ship's fueling system. It seems our trouble has disappeared but I have concerns. Perhaps I am being too cautious. Will our ship fail us in the future? Will that moment happen when peril is at hand? The answer escapes me and I am concerned. end star-log. |

Re: intermittent no start/hard start
Since the last time I posted, I have become reasonably sure that my intermittent no start/hard start problem was due to the fuel relay.

Re: intermittent no start/hard start
Intermittent problems of cranking, but not starting, are typical of cold solder joints on the main relay located under the dash. Search the forum for Rz-0067 to see additional info. Resoldering the connections inside the relay is easy to do and has fixed the problem, which is also aggravated by the heat of Summer, on my '92 Integra.
