Car blows fire out the exhaust?

Anybody know why my car blows fire out the exhaust? I seen that gay ass shit on Fast & Furious and I dont want my car to do it. Am I running rich ( dont think I am ) or is there something else? I didnt know my car did blow fire until my boy was following me to a bar and I took off and he 2 wayed me and said I was blowing fire 1' out of my exhaust and he was being serious.

Re: Car blows fire out the exhaust?

Back in the day I bored out my cat. converter and it would do that when I revved high and shifted. You may need a new one because unburnt fuel is passing through your exhaust...

If your BOV vents to the atmosphere, it can create fireballs out of your exhaust. This is because your ECU sees all of this air in your intake path and enriches the fuel for a proper mixture. When you shift and blow that off into the atmosphere instead of recirculating it back into your intake, that excess air goes away but your ECU has already added a bunch of fuel into your cylinder for the boost. So you get a super rich condition for a moment and a fireball shoots out of the exhaust. It is absolutley badass when that happens. The fast and the furious used flamethrowers to create that effect and you shouldn't let such a gay movie ruin your badass flames. They fake the funk and you got the real deal.

Yes you are running rich. Unburnt fuel is combusting in your exhaust pipes.

What the fuck are you talking about? Do you know? I doubt it. Do you know what a BOV is?
I BOV's purpose is to relieve excess pressure in your intake when your throttle plate closes so it doesn't push back into your turbo causing it to spin backwards and damage it. You ECU doesn't "add a bunch of fuel to the cylinders for boost", you EMS does that, your ECU is there is freak out if it sees something is not right. And flamethrowers? HAHAHAHAHAHA damn, that's rich y0!

EMS=ECU same thing, differnt word useage.

ECU= Engine or Electronic Control Unit.
EMS= Engine or Electronic Management System.

For some reason some American Manufactors use the term EMS, while the rest of the world uses the term ECU.

And then some people like to think of one as being a subsystem of the other, when one is used to control all the electronic systems in the car, and a smaller sub unit is used to control the engine only, while a differnt sub unit is used for faults, etc etc etc

And you can buy small flamethrower kits for fitting to your exhaust, its a common show car trick, and has been used before in more than one movie.

Flames in the exhaust are simply unburnt fuel vapour igniting on hot spots in the exhaust.
On a car with your level of tune I wouldn't worry to much about it, as long as its only hjappening when lifting off at high RPM.
If its happening a lot at lower RPM then you are indeed running to rich.

Re: Car blows fire out the exhaust?

ECU is refering to the Electronic Control Unit the car comes with from the factory, that doesn't add a bunch of fuel for boost, an Engine Management System does, and there is a difference. Or a FMU (Fuel Management Unit).

Ok, little mini flamethrowers that's cute, maybe I can get one for my kid.
