EGR valve

I have a '92 lumina that needs a new EGR valve. Why is this part so expensive (roughly $200)? Is it safe to get a refurbished one off of ebay?

Re: EGR valve

For the '92 autozone wants $180 and advance auto parts wants $211. On ebay the refurbs were going for $40.

Re: EGR valve

The EGR valve that is $180 has 3 electronically controlled solenoids so that is where I guess the price needs to be justified, right? I replaced mine at 120K miles.

Re: EGR valve

Unless you have emissions testing, forget the valve. The only problem you will have is the SES light coming on on decel. It doesn't hurt anything by not working

Re: EGR valve

I have a 92 Buick Lesabre with the 3.8 and ACDelco.com does not list an EGR valve for the motor?!?! Where is the EGR valve? My car failed e-check and I wanted to check it and I can't find it!!

It is a digital EGR, that's why it is so expensive. And they have an important function, so don't get rid of it: they lower combustion chamber temperatures which is important for maintaining your engine.

Should look like this

http://www.partsamerica.com/PartDeta...pe=282&PTSet=A

Located in the intake area, I looked on my dad's 91 and I think it is under the intake cover, not necessarily visible at first.

Re: EGR valve

Well, I took it to a mechanic, and no, I don't have an EGR valve (92 and 93 3.8's don't). My computer was fried and not talking to the o2 sensor, so I was dumping gas, thats why I failed e-check. 800 dollars later and I am back on the road.
