Engine oil

Whats the advantage of running synthetic over just regular oil. I have heard that synthetic may add minimal horsepower, but im going more for engine life here.

Whats the pros and cons?

If i change from regular to synthetic, do i need to do anything more than change the oil and filter?

thanks for your help

Re: Engine oil

For me I change every 3K miles....with a top quality oil brand.....if you want to pay more and extend the oil life.....5 -7K then go to a snythetic...basically snythetic hold up longer over time...

I've never heard of oil "adding" HP - unless you're switching from a heavy 15W50 to a lighter 5W30.

Synthetic oil is pretty much just piece of mind. Although synthetic is engineered better, that is not to say it works better. Both regular and synthetic oil do the same thing.

I run 15W50 Mobil1. The car came with 10W30 Mobil1 so I didn't bother changing brands.
