Dealer voids warranty if you paint/dye airbag covers.

That damn airbag cover on the dash passenger side of my grand am look like hell and i want to dye it however i was warned 2 years ago not too or my warranty will be void. I took that serious , the explainationfor it was " it you tamper with its structure it may not deploy the way it was desighned too " doh!!! i have 15,000 miles left in my 160,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty and im contemplating replacing the steering wheel with a custom job or dying it as i did my trim and turning the air bag cover and assembly under it into a hinged lid for a tray table or tv screen/vcr. But mostly what I think is I should keep the airbags and do nothing........... I hate dilemas , help me out please.

They always look for ways they can void your warranty... My opinion would be based upon the type of driver you are, If you get into or have a lot of near miss accidents i would say keep the air bags.... If not then go for... do something cool with it. Take out the passenger side, maybe put in a in dash tv that comes out for the passenger to watch, maybe even on a swivel so you can even see what's on. I would say something cool like that... the only thing is the air bag is located a little far back on the dash, which may cause problems for custom work.... but good luck... with what ever you do.
