2000 Taurus- electrical problem starter system
the key ignition will not activate the starter. I replaced both the starter and the electrical ignition module in the steering column ( not the lock system).
I have the system hot wired on the starter so what I am doing is I put the key inthe ignition, turn it on, jump the wires that I put onthe starter/ selonoid and Zroom car starts. Now i am flumuxed and need help .. what else is left to change out.. the wire on the sarter and batttery are all in very good shape.. what am I over looking.... the tranmission shift switch maybe? help! thanks |

Re: 2000 Taurus- electrical problem starter system
The transmission has a range sensor switch that tells the computer what mode the transmission is in, if this switch is bad then it could be the cause of your problem. It is easy to get at and it would be the first thing to look at before you spend any more money.

where is this switch ?
is this the switch on the taansmission under the hood? or is there one under the shift console? i see the linkage that goes to a switch on the transmission... I assume that is the one... Is there any way to test that with out removing it?

Yes it's on the transmission under the hood, to check it you will need a schematic to establish the pin configuration.

rough idle and lack of high end power
My 2000 seems to be idling fast and when i mash on it the engine starts cutting out. Fuel Filter?-

Fast idle
BAron- I would take it to a autozone or checker Auto parts-- they will read the codes for Free. It may be a throttle poistion switch component or a air fuel mixture issue and that could stem from several things from O2 sensors to mass flow device. but try the code reader option first saves a ton of time and money!
If it cuts out on High RPM during Idel then I cant offer a suggestion.. all my taurus ese (90, 95, 2000) have all done tht but they do not seem sluggish under actual load. go figure?! |
