84 Camaro Z28 restoration project

I've just purchased a 84 Camaro a few days ago. I'm fairly sure it's a Z28 instead of the Sports Coupe. Is there any defining numbers or other identifiers to tease out which is which? I'm also looking for anything that gives me part numbers, websites or books. Does anyone know where I can find interior pictures of the Camaro? I am missing many panels inside and I don't know what they look like. Other than needing an interior restoration the engine runs good. There is just one major problem. The frame needs to be welded right next to the steering box. Its causing a clunk sound when take a right turn. Does anyone have suggestions on how to find an automative welder and the qualifications they should have? Other than that, I've working on getting it ready for state inspection. I need a new horn button and it needs the usually maintenance, tires, shocks, lube, and ect. I just hope in time I can restore it to its former beauty.
BB, Isa.

wow, repairing a cracked frame. old school man. id almost go get the front subframe from a junkyard queen. and put that in, rather then weld up a broken one. but hey, your call. as far as pics of the interior, hit up www.sounddomain.com, they have a members rides section, kinda hit or miss, but you might find pics of what your lookin for.

Most Z28's had leather steering wheels and shifter/ebrake handles. Also, there should be a shitload of Z28 markings on the body. ;]
Thirdgen.org has a great Cd available which I highly recomend to establish GM part #'s for restoration. It's about 25.00 and nicely done.
3rd gens are inherent for cracking the frame rail @ the sterring box. It is reapirable.. and if you do get it fixed/replace... spend the 50.00 and get a "Wonder Bar" for www.topdownsolutions.com.... money well spent to avoid the problem later.
hope this helps a lil...

Re: 84 Camaro Z28 restoration project

lol, thats awesome im currently restoring both of my girls, haha, black one has been totalled twice, driver side and front end, (neither my fault) and the IROC i saved from a guy in arkansas. currently debating weather to paint the IROC black or the stock metalic red color. i dont know what it originally looked like cuz my paint as in good a condition as yours is almost looks like a coppery red but its also peeling clearcoat and faded like a mo-fo. im thinkin perhaps a candy apple red?
