Re: Looking for a couple parts
found this online.....
Introduced in California in 1961 and nationally in 1963, PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) was the first emission control system used on cars. And it's been an unmitigated success, eliminating 20% of a vehicle's overall air pollution while keeping the inside of the engine much cleaner than it would be without it (it's was a major factor in the adoption of the long oil-change intervals we have today). As its name implies, it uses the powerplant's natural vacuum to air out the crankcase, pulling the nasty combination of gases that escapes past the rings into the intake stream to be burned. Called "blow-by," these gases are a combination of raw fuel, water vapor, oil fumes, and the byproducts of combustion. Not only does this stuff befoul the air we all breathe, it also contributes mightily to the formation of sludge, varnish, and other troublesome deposits inside the engine. |
