why have 2 forums?
Can someone explain why there is a forum for Plymouth Neons with almost no activity, other than alot of unanswered questions? Aren't the Dodge Neons basically the same as the Plymouth versions? Why can't there be just one forum for both makes? Anyway, here's my real question. My girlfriend has a 99 Plymouth Neon d.o.h.c. automatic with @ 70k miles. It has developed a very rough idle that I'm told was/is a common problem with these cars. My g.f. works at Autozone and did a ckeck of the codes herself. It came back misfire cylinder 4. I checked the plugs and they were worn and needed replaced. I put some platinums in and it seemed ok for a few days. Then it started acting up again. I put new wires on but no luck. Then someone told me that I should put new factory spec champions in. I did that but no luck. I had her clear the old codes after each change and the car would be fine for a couple days then run rough again. I've also replaced the coil pack, crank position sensor, cam position sensor and a fuel injector. I've switched the injectors from one cylinder to another. It runs fine at anything other than idle and revs cleanly to redline. She took it to a Dodge dealer and they couldn't tell us anymore than we already knew. Misfire cylinder 4. They did a compression check that checked out ok. They said it might be cams or springs and want $600-700 to go in and find out. I'm sure as heck not paying that $$$ on a guess and I dont think it could be either of those items since the problem goes away for a couple days after clearing the code. To me, it has to be electrical. What other sensors are there that might cause this?

Re: why have 2 forums?
Try checking the voltage on the coil pack. If you have access to a Haynes manual it will tell you what the output shoud be.
Another possibility is the camshaft position or crankshaft position sensor might be going. With Neons, anything goes, and I had a lot go wrong with mine It lays silent in the garage now, dead.
